Exhibition Abstract

Paradise Bank is a site-specific installation by Italian-Brazilian artist Lucas Memmola, curated by Tramandars for the World Food Forum (WFF) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at the Botanical Gardens in Rome. The exhibition addresses the importance of forests in the context of youth and agrifood systems, with a concentration on the Amazon rainforest.

The title of the installation is an association of two images: 'Paradise' which is understood as a mythical garden, an eden that finds its real reflection in the richness, natural prosperity, and abundance of the forest. The term 'Bank’ refers to a dual meaning: on one hand, the function of security and protection, and on the other, to the concept of economic speculation and accumulation.

The installation highlights the need for young people and beyond to innovate and implement sustainable practices for the protection of the Amazon's beauty and biodiversity, such as the better production of key exports of the area and the promotion of Indigenous agricultural supply chains. Indigenous Peoples have always defended the forest, a necessary organ for the Earth, and should be respected and included.

*Refreshments will be provided featuring the products shown in the exhibition with vegan and vegetarian options.
