EIT Food participates in the first-ever Startup Area of Alimentaria Foodtech 2023

On September 28th and 29th, EIT Food played a part in the Startups Area of Alimentaria Foodtech organised by IRTA. Entrepreneurship and water efficiency were some of the crowning topics of the event.

EIT Food joined the new area for startups at Alimentaria Foodtech 2023

EIT Food participated in the Alimentaria Foodtech held in Barcelona, Spain. From 26th to 29th of September, attendees could participate in different conferences, debates, and networking sessions about machine, technology, and ingredients innovation in the agrifood industry.

This year, however, the fair incorporated new activities like the FoodTech Innovarena, where startups were able to pitch their business ideas while creating connections with key stakeholders. Besides, Carmen Galindo, Key Account Manager at EIT Food, and Juan Ignacio Zaffora, Regional Startup Manager at EIT Food, were present in the Startups Area, which was organised by IRTA.

On September 28, Carmen Galindo acted as a jury in the startup pitching session focused on sustainability in the agrifood sector. The contestants showcased their ventures and projects related to circularity, water, and energy efficiency, among others.

To be highlighted, many EIT Food alumni coming from programmes like FAN, Seedbed, and Water Scarcity could present their solutions to agrifood experts: Color Sensing, Ingredalia, Genbioma Aplicaciones, ODS protein, BioBee, Algaloop, ISAUKI Foods, Innomy, Novameat, Bread Free, Oscillum and Aquadat.

In addition, Bioazul, had the opportunity to take the stage to talk about its long history in the agrifood sector, as well as to share its knowledge regarding the important water – energy – food – ecosystems (WEFE) nexus.

On the last day of the fair, September 29, Juan Zaffora gave a conference in which he addressed the experiences of European agrifood venture builders. Zaffora explained all EIT Food’s entrepreneurship programmes, such as TeamUp programme, and concluded by presenting key insights to support early-stage startups on their journey.
