EIT Food Hosts Nati00ns Event: Advancing Soil Health and Innovation in Türkiye

On 16th May, EIT Food and Yasar University (YU) teamed up for another round of Nati00ns’ National Engagement Events. The event, hold in Türkiye, seized the opportunity to foster awareness, share information, and create connection around the EU Mission ‘A Soil Deal for Europe’.

Çeşme, Izmir (Türkiye), welcomed the event named ‘Soil Health and Modern Plant Nutrition Techniques’ on behalf of Nati00ns. It gathered researchers, farmers, experts, and policy makers, among other relevant key players to advance Nati00ns primary goal, which is the establishment of 100 living labs and lighthouses to lead the transition towards healthy soils by 2030. The event kicked off with an institutional opening by the organizers: Paula Hafner, Key Account Manager at EIT Food; Ahmet Yiğitbaşı, President of the Board of Trustees at YU; Prof. Dr. Levent Kandiller, Rector at YU; and Prof. Dr. İsmail Türkan, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Dean at YU.

Çınar Adalı Öner, National Contact Point of Nati00ns and Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye, seconded the opening by remarking on the EU Mission ‘Soil Health for Europe’ and Key Features of Living Laboratories. Hafner delved into Nati00ns and discussed the new Open Calls focused on soil health.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in focused discussions on environmental and social challenges, as well as innovative solutions presented by agrifood scientists and experts. Melissa Comellas, Regional Programme Manager at EIT Food, highlighted the importance of regenerative agriculture in ensuring soil and plant health.

Exploring the industry's latest challenges and needs, the gathering provided ample opportunities for relevant stakeholders to network, connect, and cultivate valuable relationships.
