First half: warming up in Lezama

On 15 January, the Women’s C team (aged 14-18) gathered at the Athletic Club facilities for a different kind of training: learning how to reduce food waste in their daily lives. Guided by the Oreka team, led by Denis Ugalde, Patrizia Vitelli, and Victor Alonso, they tackled everything from planning balanced meals to creating sustainable shopping lists. This session prepared them to be champions—not just on the pitch, but in sustainability too.

Second half: teamwork with FundaciĂłn Fidias

On 28 January, the under-11 players of Athletic Club joined children from FundaciĂłn Fidias in a friendly yet meaningful competition. Their mission? "Score against waste." Through creativity and teamwork, they designed a collaborative banner to highlight the importance of reducing food waste. As part of the GarATHuz programme,Los Salvacomidas by FoodEducators and Edukabilbo worked together to make sustainability an exciting learning experience.

Extra time: the final challenge in Lezama

The match isn’t over yet. On 11 March, a scavenger hunt in Lezama will test everything the participants have learned. They will face a series of challenges, proving their commitment to saving food and protecting the planet. The ultimate winner? A future with less waste and more sustainable habits.

With this initiative, the Athletic Club Foundation and EIT Food reaffirm their dedication to sustainability, demonstrating that, just like in football, teamwork and strategy lead to great victories. In this squad, food waste doesn’t stand a chance!
