Open Innovation

EIT Food Innovation promotes collaborative, open innovation actions through a dedicated Intellectual Property and Knowledge Sharing program, consortium-based funding opportunities and events.

Intellectual Property (IP) Garden

The EIT Food IP Garden is a dedicated Intellectual Property and Knowledge sharing programme that supports implementation of cutting-edge innovations in the food industry. On a curated marketplace, we offer direct access to a portfolio of close-to-market technologies that can make a positive contribution towards a healthier and sustainable food system. The technologies have been developed with support of EIT Food funding and are accessible to organizations that share our mission objectives. Technologies open to co-development, co-commercialisation and licensing are presented in the Opportunities Portal

If you are an open innovation leader, entrepreneur, venture builder or EIT Food Innovation funding beneficiary, the IP Garden offers you the following:

  • Expand your product portfolio or accelerate your R&D pipeline by building on prior innovation project results that demonstrated technical success and market potential.
  • Connect to domain experts at research organizations, research leaders at universities and R&D managers at multinationals and innovative SMEs.
  • Benefit from innovation funding to de-risk knowledge transfer and implementation actions and/or participate in one of our start-up support programmes.
  • A technological base for starting a new business and participation in on of our start-up support programmes.

Owners

If you have finalized an EIT Food co-funded action and are looking to enhance or commercialise the results through licensing or co-collaboration:

  • Register your interest below or reach out to the program manager.
  • Submit a non-confidential summary describing the innovation and the envisioned collaboration. A standardized format will be provided and the summary will be enhanced to generate maximum traction.
  • Develop a confidential information package to be shared with potential interested parties.
  • We will publish your offer in our Opportunities portal and track industry feedback.
  • We will select relevant incoming opportunities through an initial conversation and share relevant opportunities with you.
  • During conversations and information sharing (under Non Disclosure Agreement, NDA), collaboration opportunities are further explored.

Seekers

Are you looking for new knowledge and technologies that can drive new business opportunities or strengthen your existing portfolio?

  • Browse through our portfolio featured on the Opportunities Portal and connect directly through the portal. Can’t find what you are looking for? Reach out directly and we can explore your needs.
  • After you’ve expressed interest in a technology, we evaluate the match and explore the collaboration opportunities. More information about the technology and an in-depth conversation with the involved researchers can be arranged after executing a Non Disclosure Agreement.
  • Depending on the nature of the collaboration, we set-up a technology transfer licensing agreement, collaborative research agreement, sponsored research agreement, spin-off or joint venture agreement.
  • Implementation can be further supported through EIT Food Programmes such as Fast Track to Market and the Impact Funding Framework and will monitored over time.

Consortium based funding opportunities

We’ve launched a competitive, open Impact Funding Framework to promote ambitious, long-term collaboration that will lead to food systems change to benefit us all.

We want our co-investment to have a real impact. We're looking for proposals from consortia based around lead organisations who can work effectively, move quickly, and are supported by high-quality research, communications and impact assessment expertise.

Events

The EIT Food Innovation Team actively supports networking and matchmaking by organizing or co-hosting events. You can find all EIT Food events following the button below.
