Denmark is in the lead when it comes to food quality and safety and the development of new agricultural products.

The main crops in Denmark are small grains, mainly wheat and barley, covering more than half of the agricultural area. Danish farmers own and control the main processing and marketing industries for food products in our country, as farmer-owned cooperative dairies and slaughterhouses have a market share of more than 90 per cent of the annual production.

The national speciality of Denmark are smørrebrød, open sandwiches that traditionally consist of a piece of buttered dense rye bread (rugbrød), topped with cold cuts, pieces of meat or fish, cheese or spreads, and garnishes.
